NEOIAAA PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE, 2008-2009
Bruce Brown, CMAA
Uniontown Lake High School

Welcome to our NEIOAAA website and home to a wealth of information and resources for all interscholastic athletic administrators. The NEOIAAA has a rich and storied history, claiming many of Ohio’s brightest and best athletic administrators among it’s past and current members.  Our association is adamant about providing a dynamic website which reflects the professionalism and high standards of excellence we have come to expect from our Northeast District.  We hope you will become a continued visitor to this site and that you find the information herein beneficial.

Our association’s goals for the 2008-2009 school remain as they were last year:

  • Enhance member services
  • Continue improvement to our website
  • Provide for a dynamic and useful Spring and Fall Conference
  • Continue to provide "New A.D.'s Mentor Training"
    • We are a state leader in this activity
  • Promote our Association with other school administrators
  • Increase NEOIAAA membership and participation
  • Accentuate and promote our NEOIAAA awards and recognition

***Additionally, we will add the following goal to our already challenging list:***

  • Support, promote and provide training sites for the new OHSAA Coach Education Initiative

This last goal is the most challenging and exciting opportunity our profession has been asked to provide in many years.  We are truly at a “crossroads” with interscholastic athletics as we have known them across the country……especially here in Ohio.

Every aspect of school operations has come under greater scrutiny and athletics is no exception.  What we do to insure the integrity and position of “school sports” as part of the educational process has never been of greater importance.  Creating a “shift in sport culture”, especially among those being directly impacted by middle school and high school sport programs, is of the most urgent priority if we are to maintain sports in our schools!

To create such a paradigm shift, we must first re-focus and re-educate our primary stakeholders……our coaches, our faculty, our school administrators and our parents…..on the true mission and vision of interscholastic athletics.  Part of that process is in the certification of school coaches and those working directly with our student-athletes.

The new Coach Education initiative is a positive step in this direction and one that needs the support of every interscholastic athletic administrator in our state.  Please take the opportunities you will have available, through this website, the new OIAAA website, the OHSAA, the OIAAA State Conference, and an assortment of other data and FAQs that will be coming your way over the next few months, to learn more about the benefits and opportunities for your respective coaches in becoming certified through the “Fundamentals of Coaching” course.

We all know how “full our plates are” throughout the year.  Yet, we are often times the very people who our respective school district administrators turn to for those critical projects and to meet the needs of our communities.  By becoming involved with the NEOIAAA and connecting with the wide range of outstanding member athletic directors, you are strengthening your skills and broadening your professional network to be “the best”.

Please visit this site often and consider sharing successful “nuggets” and strategies with your peers.  Best wishes for a successful school year!
